This is a first for me.
I made four garments in one day.
Really really simple garments, but still.
Using a striped, tribal printed knit, I made a pair of Style Arc Laura leggings. (I love that pattern, which has no side seams, making it much easier to match stripes.)
I also made a simple tube skirt from the same fabric. I do like wearing short skirts over tights or leggings. (I didn't use a pattern for this - it's just a rectangle with an elastic waist.)
For two months now I've wanted to make myself a short black sheath dress with 3/4 length sleeves - sort of like a long t-shirt. I had a nice black wool ponte that I wanted to use. But this sort of sewing is so.boring. that I kept procrastinating.
I had to force myself to get it done. While I was at it, I cut out another simple tube skirt from the black ponte.
For the dress, I traced the upper body (neckline and armscye) from the Style Arc Adele top. I removed the a-line shaping and lengthened it to a short dress length.
Easy peasy.
As boring as this sort of sewing is, I will get lots of wear out of these garments.
Jillian came to visit me at work last week. She was my first Google guest! Thanks for a fun lunch, JillyBe, and for the pics!
I am also linking up with Patti's Visible Monday!
So glad you got some much needed basics in such a short amount of time! it truly was a great sewing day!!!
ReplyDeleteWow...you are amazing..four garments in one day! And this looks great on you...so much fun! Also, love the long necklace!
ReplyDeleteYou're an amazing seamstress - and you know how to customize too, how great. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday!
ReplyDeleteYou really had the machine humming! Great work; basics are so great (once the boring sewing is over and you get to wear them!).
ReplyDeleteI love you work clothes aesthetic! You have shown how to keep your creativity in your new tech world. Would like to have a pic everyday of you and the bikes!
ReplyDeleteLove that printed knit!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed! We all need basics; it's hard to get dressed when all you have are statement pieces and these are very nice basics.
ReplyDeleteWonderful garments--the tribal print is cool! :)
ReplyDeleteRose in SV
Those horizontal stripes are wonderful on you! Great outfits and love the conference bike photo of you both too :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the sewing, basics are something every closet needs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great 'mini wardrobe'! I love the tribal print - very funky!!
ReplyDeleteHooray for utility sewing! Boring, yes, but oh-so-necessary! I love that tribal print!
ReplyDeleteYou are such an inspiration! That's exactly what I need to do. Basics are what I like to wear, so that's what I should sew. Thanks for sharing your cool conference bike, too. I never saw it when I worked there!
ReplyDelete4 garments are 4 garments! And they look pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to overlook the wardrobe basics...but we all need them! Great work...and I love the conference bike! Totally bonkers...in a good way.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good day in the sewing room when you can put out 4 solid basics. You look great, and it's nice to see Jillian too! Yoo-hoo Jillian, missing your blogging...
ReplyDeleteYour new leggings outfit is perfect for riding those snazzy Google bikes. You look great! Good use of the leftovers to whip up a couple of skirts too. It's nice to see you hitting the sewing room again. : )
ReplyDeleteI cracked up when I read this post! I had just finished a day of sewing Margy's TNT McCall's 6607 tunic and Christine Jonson's Basewear 622 leggings to go with it. Whipped them up in about 4 hours. It must have been in the air.
ReplyDeleteLove that print, Shams. You look like you're having fun. Well done!
Impressive! I love that black tunic in particular. Just bought a New Look pattern Sat for a great tunic (never used NL before...so a bit wary). It's so hard to find actual tunics in RTW that are actually LONG enough - pet peeve of mine :) Love yours - you'll get loads of use out of all those pieces!
ReplyDeleteWell done!
These may be basic shapes, but the tribal print brings a lot of good oomph to the outfits. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteFour in One Day! You need to get yourself a belt so you can start making notches in it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief to have some staples in the closet and some staple sewing taken care of!
A conference bike. . . do the riders have to ride backwards? So novel!
Wow, you did a lot of sewing in one day! I've never really sewn with knit fabrics, that's would be an adventure for me!
ReplyDeleteThat's a fabulous new wardrobe... I especially love those funky leggings! Gorgeous fabric :)
ReplyDeleteI am jealous! (lol)
ReplyDeleteWow! You gotz legz! Great easy outfits. I'm in complete awe of anyone who makes her own tights.
ReplyDeleteHi to Jilly...I miss her blogging!!! Your 4 new garments are VERY nice and a lot in one day! That is a cool bike!!!!
ReplyDeleteMakes me wanna take a sewing class!! :)
ReplyDelete4 pieces in one day. Oh my. How I cherish being able to do that again. Did you know that when you get a pacemaker, they advise you against sewing because of the static electricity generated by sewing machines and sergers? I got one two weeks ago and am still adjusting to it. One thing for sure... I WILL be sewing! Not all day and all night like I did before, but there is no way in the world I am anywhere near ready to even consider letting go of my sewing machines. I have already made a couple of pieces... spending just a couple of hours on the machines per day.
