SFO Airport Dresses

Like so many airports these days, San Francisco Airport displays artwork along its walkways. Therefore, unless you fly, you will miss the exhibits, as they are behind the security checkpoint. I was in SFO about a week ago and I spied a display with these dresses, which required a closer inspection.

In case you can't see, they are made from Mary Jane and Tootsie Pop wrappers, respectively. Too cute. I have never heard of Mary Jane candy and, in fact, Mary Jane has a somewhat different connotation for me. :)

While I was snapping photos a man came up and also took photos, explaining that he works in the LA garment district. He escaped into the United Red Carpet club before I could strike up a chat with him.

Why was I in the airport? Well, I was taking a rare flight. A fiber-related trip. More later. :)

  3. What great dresses. I have loved Mary Jane candies for more decades than I care to admit on the internet:-) They may account for the many fillings on my dental chart...and I probably could have made a coronation robe with the early childhood quantity of wrappers. Saw your Baltimore pics and only wish I had been up there to join in the fabric fun!

  4. I *LOVE* Mary Jane candy! As Jane M said, they probably account for many fillings. And they are sticky enough to pull those fillings right out!

  5. Is it wrong to wish she had matched the stripes on the Mary Jane dress better? I don't even know what MJ candies taste like--when I found them in my Halloween haul I traded them for chocolate!

  6. So neat. Both candies were childhood favorites. I'd be afraid to eat Mary Jane's now for fear the peanut butter flavored taffy would pull my fillings out. I was thinking about making a top out of the net bags citrus fruit comes in. This post makes me think I should do it.

  7. Is that on the United terminal domestic? I love their displays - CA tile, slot machines, the last display was repurposed art (sprinkler can out of scrap aluminum), and now, repurposed candy wrapper dresses. Love it!
