My Sunday musing are intended to a) let you know I'm still around and kicking and b) share info/resources that have my interest. (I definitely am not getting as much sewing done as I sometimes do!)
I'm still alive and kicking. In fact, I have a top almost completely sewn and, as soon as I get off the internet, I plan to finish it.
Meanwhile, the book pictured here represents one of my many work projects that is finally out the door. (If you click the image it will take you to the book listing on Amazon.) I am so glad to have it done! No worries, though, I still have loads of other projects at work to keep me very busy. (This is one way you can see my real name, though I still won't be posting my actual name on the blog. I like to keep the worlds separate, Google-wise.)
Have you ever attended Sew Expo in Puyallup, Washington? I have not yet been, but it's on my bucket list. I am always hyper aware of the event. Partly because many of my friends attend. Partly because several indie pattern companies release new patterns to coincide. Partly because there is a fashion show I am interested in (this year Marcy and Katherine Tilton are doing it with Vogue Patterns). Partly because lots of people who go pull out all the stops to make really beautiful, creative pieces and I love to drink it all up and feast on the creativity.
So, I have become rather attached to reading real live postings about the activities at Puyallup, which ends today. Here are my favorite resources this year. If I have missed any good ones, please post them in the comments section:
- Marcy Tilton's blog post on the clothing she has made for the event.
- Katherine Tilton's blog post on the clothing she has made for the event.
- Marcy's newsletter has lots of Puyallup-related excitement.
- Marcy's Post Expo post shows the clothing that her booth assistants made for the event. (Added 3/11/13.)
- Sewing Workshop (on Facebook) has posted some pics. You can see this page even if you are not a member on FB. Also, if you follow Sewing Workshop on Twitter, they are posting updates with links to Instagram. From there you can see lots of pictures. For example, maybe you have heard about the new Pearl and Onion jacket pattern from Sewing Workshop (not yet posted on their website). You can see several examples of the actual jackets on Instagram here, here, here, here and here. I also really like this outfit, especially with the knotted necklace. And this version of Ann's Cardigan is especially lovely.
- Marcy's Facebook page has some pictures of the setup at Puyallup.
- Some of my friends from Canada College are visiting Sew Expo and you can see some of their pics on the Canada College Fashion Facebook page.
Did I miss any other resources with pics from Sew Expo?
I registered!
Last, but not least, I registered for PR Weekend in San Francisco. I really look forward to meeting new folks and seeing friends at the event, where Sandra Betzina is the special guest. I believe registration is still open, if you are interested.
And now, I need to get off the computer and finish my top!
Congratulations on the book! What a beautiful cover. Any chance it can be reproduced as a graphic print on ITY? if so, please put me down for a couple yards! or maybe chiffon for a scarf?). Seriously! I'm very happy for you regarding the book project. Are always working on interesting stuff!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Rose
Thanks for all the links, Shams! Puyallup sounds like an especially wonderful one this year.
ReplyDeleteAlso, congratulations on seeing your book in print! Is this your first? I can't imagine all the organizing and attention to detail such a task requires.
Thanks, Carol. No, this is not the first but this one took a loooong time.
DeleteBig congrats on the book, what an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteWow, how exciting to have written this book. Having worked for a computer book publisher, I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you, even sans sewing photos!
Amazing news on the book...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book! AND, on going to PR Weekend...can't wait to see your top.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book. I too have the Seattle Expo on my list. I actually had plane tickets and due to weather was not able to attend 2 years running. I gave up on making it happen. May try again
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating!
DeleteThe Expo is on my sewing bucket list also! Congrats on the book - you must be thrilled to have it finished!
ReplyDeleteThanks especially for The Sewing Workshop links. I've been drooling over the Tilton sisters' ensembles.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book! I was taken by surprise by your book, it was a strange case of my sewing world overlapping with my offline world in an odd way. . .my husband works for Oracle too! The last place I expected to hear or see anything about Java was on one of the sewing blogs I read! Small world isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLOL, Lynn! I have a new-ish next door neighbor. After they'd lived here a month or so, I was chatting with them one day and discovered that the husband also works at the same company. Of course, it is a large company!
DeleteI have always gone to the Puyallup Expo, even from Tulsa where we moved two years ago. This year, my mother's 90th birthday party was on Saturday in Sacramento, so we both missed it. But - one of my favorite things is the independent pattern companies. Great fashion shows and they bring samples. You can try most of them on, so you know what size to use right out of the envelope - plus knowing whether the style is right for you. And all the newest sewing notions, too. Sometimes they have special deals, but just not having shipping charges saves almost enough for the plane ticket. And never miss the Vogue Fabric booth. They have wonderful fabric priced so low, and even if you don't find anything you like, their people are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great, Beryl! In six years both kids will be through college, so maybe then!
DeleteHey, I live about 40 minutes from the Puyallup Fair grounds, so I attend Expo every year! I would be delighted to act as tour guide/local friend when when you come!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book. Sorry, I won't be buying it as I didn't even understand what it said in the description. LOL
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book - Mr SpottyDogSocialClub is a Java boy! Keeps him busy and pays for my fabric!
ReplyDeleteI plan on going to Sew Expo next year (too busy seliing/moving house this year) - see you then!?
Probably not, twotoast, but I will be eager to hear about it!
DeleteCongrats on the book, Shams! And I hope to see you at Puyallup sometime very soon. It really is a great experience. My blog post will be live tomorrow morning, with a few musings on this year's vendors and classes. I have a link to a Flickr set with quite a few pix. Enjoy!

Congratulations on the book, what an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteAnd glad to know I'm not the only one keeping my real name from my blog for separating two worlds.
How cool to see your name on a book! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book! Will show it to my husband :) i went to my very first sew expo on Saturday, had an awesome experience. That's the main reason we moved near here, haha ;) it will be so great to meet with sewing bloggers in the future expos at Puyallup!
ReplyDeleteOh boy! Many congratulations on the book!! I bet it feels really good to see it in print.
ReplyDeleteThe Puyallup expo is on my list too. Maybe when I am all the way moved to Seattle I can try again to convince my high school friend to go with me. When I told her about it she gave a true raised-in-Seattle response: "Puyallup?? You want to go to Puyallup?? Why would they have a sewing event in Puyallup?" We figured it was b/c the fairgrounds are the only place huge enough for such a thing!
Thanks for the roundup of links for Puyallup--I know I wouldn't have come across them myself. Glad to hear things are well and so very productive chez Shams. Hope your top turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteWow! Fantastic that you are published (again). Congratulations! Anxious to see your top.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the links to Puyallup. I'd love to go one day too.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any info on the knotted necklace? The photo says it's going to be a class / get together project. Looks interesting.
I will add my congrats, Shams.
ReplyDeleteDo you know whether instructions are available for that stunning knotted necklace?
Thanks, Gail D.
I go to Puyallup every few years. I love the Expo! Its a great way to get to see and speak with many of the sewing world's greats, to see new products and to just become inspired. I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteBig congrats on your book! I'm quite impressed, being one who uses a computer without speaking any of its languages (or whatever). lol Thank goodness for people like you who not only understand but also explain these things.
ReplyDeleteThe Expo caused damage to my pocketbook and my feet, but it was fun getting to that point.
I'm back and I made it as one of the two finalists chosen to compete now for a spot on the Sew It all televison show!! The expo is incredible. At one point someone asked me if I needed help and I said, "yes, I need some help with keeping my money in my purse!"
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I meant to congratulate you on your book project. Just incredible!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your book! Great accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your published book!! You are clever. I need a few lessons from you, or at least to get the book ... I'm hopeless at that stuff :)
ReplyDeleteBig congrats on your new book, Shams! You are one smart cookie.
ReplyDeleteWell, I went to the Expo for the first time in a very long time. I was kind of glad we picked the Thursday morning to go. Not quite so crowded. I dragged poor DH around for 4 hours, checked out every single booth, managed to miss the Tilton fashion show and in the end didn't really buy much. But I had a fabulous time! So inspiring - and overwhelming.
