Janome FM 725 - How do I love Thee?!

Finally, she arrived! My felting machine arrived!

From Ohio, to Oakland, CA, back to Indiana and, finally, to San Francisco. The UPS man showed up on Wednesday, sometime after 7pm, but I was not up to opening the box, having spent hours in the dental chair earlier that day.

I finally fired her up on Thursday evening.

I am in love with this machine. I had some samples I had hand felted – I had felted these as thoroughly as possible, by hand. Within seconds under the needles on the machine, they were embedded into the fabric as if they had been manufactured that way.

I can now make progress on the jacket that was waiting for this machine. I may not finish it this weekend, though. I have been pulled into a fire at work this weekend and have four meetings scheduled (yup, two per day), plus whatever work needs to happen. I can sew in between, though.

Here's a peek at my current felting project.

Don't be sad, Felt Sample! This is FUN!

I hope you have a safe, warm, dry weekend, wherever you may be!

  1. So pleased it arrived safely! Have you plenty of spare needles? I broke a fair few with my first attempts... I buy mine from ebay as they work out much cheaper.
Looking forward to seeing your felting results.

  2. Pin Queen, I did buy some spare needles and, oy, they are expensive! I think I bought them from ebay, but I'll have to doubl check.

  3. I wish you lived near me. I would contrive to borrow it. The Prada fall 07 show had some amazing felting (, and Calvin Klein spring 10 ( Have fun!

  4. Ok I've got to have one of these.

  5. Thanks for sharing that link, Claudine. There are some beautiful textural effects in that collection. But, wow, Miuccia Prada chose a very unfortunate outfit! The effect was jarring after all the loveliness.

And I wish you lived closer to me too, but not only to borrow my FM. ;)

My head has been swirling with felting ideas, but I am working today!

  6. I am so glad you finally got it! You will love this little machine. I have one and really should spend more time with it. I think you will find it a great investment in your creativity.

  7. as per the last; I can assure you I had a VERY warm and dry weekend, thank you!! (Sorry, I just could not resist that!)

Your machine is going to be so much fun... I can just envisage you playing with it a lot, as I would be too!

  8. so sad when work gets in the way of life. If your meetings are boring, you can doodle some designs to practice.

  9. What a wonderfully creative marriage, you and this machine. can't wait to see what you do with it. I miss mine up north so you'll be inspiring me more than ever.

  10. Wow, I love that machine! I've been wanting one for a while....maybe for Valentines Day??? lol.
