More About the Big 4

I don't know if you read the Kadiddlehopper blog, but Katie (of Kadiddlehopper), performed a very interesting experiment. She decided to make a knit top, and to approach the process as a beginning sewist, who doesn't have experience with the Big 4, their fit model (with the large amount of ease), or their instructions. The results of her experiment are very illuminating.

Check it out!

Yay!

Tonight, my youngest graduated from high school! Next year, she is off to travel, and study, the world in a gap year program. The following year she is off to a university in Minnesota. This California girl is going to have an interesting time adjusting to a Minnesotan winter!

I am busy this weekend, so no sewing for me. I look forward to getting back to the machine soon!

  3. Your daughter is beautiful and so are you! My daughter spent the weekend in Duluth--I guess Minnesota is the place to be these days!

  4. I think you should sit your daughter down in front of a DVD of Fargo! Looks like you'll be sewing coats for a few years. My youngest daughter is at a similar age and stage. Australian schools finish in November and she is torn between a gap year or straight to uni.

  6. Katie's experiment was interesting but the difference wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe knits are more forgiving.
Nice photo of you and dd. YOu will miss her. We are lucky here in Australia that our kids generally do not go interstate to college. Mine are still at home.

  14. That's a great photo of you two! So, I don't really sew McCall/Vogue/Butterick for some reason, but I do tend to like Simplicity and have sewn up quite a few patterns. I've never once had a problem with excess ease and the fit tends to be consistent and pretty good straight out of the envelope. It makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong!

  21. Your daughter will love MN, and it isn't all that bad--except for this past Winter...and Spring (Ice Out in May). But then, Ice Out was March in the previous year. Guess it all evens out.
Just think of all the new wardrobe options!
I get-away to SF in Winter and enjoy MN summers.
